What is Ed Magee to do when he loses his reporting job at the Topeka local newspaper, perhaps take up the dream of being a PI and well the die seems cast when he meets a femme fatale in a local bar in true Noir fashion. Of course this isn't a hard boiled detective yarn but a tale of modern vampire sects slowing growing and influencing politics and economics with the simple goal to make humans the subservient breed in the US and eventually the world. The twist is the woman's four legged companion who not only attaches herself to Ed but is able to communicate with him and when required rip the throat out of any threat, what more could you want from mans best friend although maybe even Cesar Millan would have trouble with Mitzi the Vampire Poodle!
This is a fun read, not to be taken seriously for the obvious reasons but there is plenty of room in the genre for laughs and giggles, romance outside of the teenage realm and a mixing of lore with which to create a world where a vampire poodle simply works)

Loved Mitzi, the only problem was in believing in a vampire poodle - now, a vampire chihuahua, THAT'S believable. The relationship between Ed and Mitzi was great, Ed and Clancy, not so much, but I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.Product details

Mr. & Ms. Jones have struck gold with this instant classic!! The characters are imaginative, inspired and a total hoot to boot! I normally don't read books, (or, in this case, my computer,) in one sitting, but I sure came close to doing just that! If I had a "vampire" friend/colleague, She would be, "Mitzi!"

Too many competitive females, too many of a certain type of women, way too much of a voice I couldn't stand. Main character is too naive (gullible) and if I was going to write a dog story, I wouldn't have picked a poodle. No way she'd have my back
I really enjoyed the series.
I had more fun reading this book. And just when I needed some fun,too. It is scary, it is sexy, it is funny, and chock full of suspense. I am already on the next book.

I got book one as a free book and I loved it. I am not into vampire books, but since the dog was the main character it got my attention. I loved the fact that Mitzi is convinced she is a poodle.
With the introduction of several completely new characters towards the end of the tale the reader is left clueless ... so quick, get the next book! I DON'T THINK SO! That ending took 2 stars off my review!
Otherwise, this is a tale of a rather bumpkin ex-reporter named Ed Magee, who is adopted by Mitzi. Mitzi is definitely a vampire but she's only a poodle in her dreams. In reality she is a very spunky mutt and Ed needs all of her spunk and her considerable brainpower to survive in a world where vampires are on the rise and are dying to eliminate Ed. On their part Ed and Mitzi would love to eliminate the vampire community but would prefer not to die in the attempt. When Ed falls in love with Clancy, who is not a vampire (or is she?) things get even more complicated as Alicia, who definitely is a vampire, is prone to jealousy and vengeance and Alicia hates Ed, Mitzi and Clancy about equally.
The book is a fun read but I only recommend it to people ready to read the whole series.
I bought the whole series and they were entertaining and very creative. Not a kids story and I laughed at several of the incidents Mitzi gets herself and her people into. Fun series for late night reading. Get them!
